I would like this more if everything was a lot darker. i dont think its taking advantage of the dynamics differences in the verse and chorus sections. Everything is over compressed and left me with an stale impression. the lyrics could’ve done more justice imo too, i dont think its suited for this beat. lastly, her performance seemed a bit awkward.
Overall, i think this track has potential but, it wasnt executed right

Internet Explorer TV commercial song by Alex Clare – Too Close

i ran into this commercial when browsing and thought the song was pretty cool. so, i did some quick research…real quick, in fact, on IE’s youtube channel description had all the information i was looking for…thought that was pretty cool too actually, usually they wont bother to post things like that.
So, after listening…i really want to remix this song. Alex’s voice and style has a beautiful blend of blues, rock, attitude and rasp but that’s not all. With this song, what really added the extra spice imo is the combination of voice and hook where most of the instruments change…shortened and stabbing kick, synth focused, introduction to snare, then the percussion loop comes back in at the 2nd half of hook. Now, one can argue how played out modulated bassline is but, just like what Dr.Luke’s team did, the bassline doesn’t make up the entire song, instead enhances it with character..and where else is a better place to add character then the hook?
If for any reason Alex Clare is reading this, please send me the stems of your vocals, lol.
